About Interventional Radiology
Interventional Radiology is a sub-specialty of Radiology, but there are important differences between the two fields. While Radiology typically focuses on diagnostic testing, Interventional Radiology focus on diagnostic testing as well as the treatment of a large number of medical conditions. Interventional Radiology is a relatively young field, originating largely from work done in the 1960s and 1970s. IR treatments utilize diagnostic imaging equipment (such as x-rays, ultrasound, and CT scans) to guide specialized tools throughout the body which can successfully treat the very conditions that we are often tasked with diagnosing. As a young, technically driven field, Interventional Radiology is constantly evolving, with new equipment and new materials expanding the possibilities for treatment almost on a daily basis. The procedures we offer our patients are minimally invasive, well-tolerated, and effective, affording options to patients with many conditions that they have previously never had the opportunity to explore.
About Albany IR
For more than 20 years, Albany IR has been providing state-of-the-art, minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic services to people living in and around the Capital District of New York State. Our practice has consistently been at the forefront of cutting-edge, image-guided medicine during that time, which has enabled us to provide our patients with the newest and most innovative care available. For many years, and continuing today, our staff has been engaged in the research studies responsible for laying the foundation for continuing advances in the field of Interventional Radiology. We have shared this experience through publications in scientific journals and textbooks and have actively participated in the training of the next generation of interventional radiologists in our residency and fellowship training programs at Albany Medical Center.
About Our Practice at Albany Medical Center
Our IR practice at Albany Medical Center is academic in nature, with a commitment to clinical care, education, and research in Interventional Radiology. The IR practice at AMC exemplifies all of the partnerships that must be in place for successful patient care to be delivered. Of course, this is a partnership between our providers and our patients but beyond that, we place great value on the partnerships our providers have with the technologists, the nurses, and the office-based staff that are responsible for the daily operation of the IR service. Each of these individuals offers an outstanding commitment to patient care that gives our providers the ability to then offer our patients the most innovative and most effective care that IR has to offer. Every patient being seen at AMC benefits from the knowledge that each of these individuals brings to their care.
