Venous access is an important, if not critical, aspect of the care plan for many patients. Whether it is a patient with cancer requiring chemotherapy, a patient with kidney failure requiring hemodialysis, or a patient with intestinal issues requiring nutritional support, it is their need for venous access which ties all of these patients together. A venous access device (otherwise known as a "catheter" or "line" is essentially a tube that goes inside a vein and can be used to either draw blood samples or administer medication directly to a patient.
