Dialysis Interventions: Case 1

50 year old male with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis who presents with a pseudoaneurysm of the arterial limb of a RUE arteriovenous dialysis graft.

Comment: Repeated punctures into an arteriovenous graft can potentially lead to pseudoaneurysm formation. In some cases, bleeding through the skin can result. When this occurs, options for treatment include revising the graft or placement of a covered stent in the affected limb of the graft.  This is what was done in this case. Two stents were placed across the pseudoaneurysm to insure that they were adequately anchored in the graft both proximal and distal to the pseudoaneurysm. Once they were deployed and post-dilated, the pseudoaneurysm was effectively excluded.
